Professional Experience
Accelerant (June 2025 – Present)
Technical Architect / Engineering Lead — Design System
- Technical lead for the company’s design system — a Lit web-component library and design-token system consumed across roughly two dozen micro-frontends and the primary platform; own component API design, theming, and accessibility.
- Grew the design system from a small component set into the platform’s UI foundation in under a year — expanding component coverage, tightening release cadence, and driving adoption across two large, independent codebases while steadily increasing delivery throughput.
- Taught designers and product managers to use AI coding agents to build and contribute production-ready UI directly to the codebase — extending the contributor base well beyond engineering and turning design-system work into something the whole product org can ship, not just request.
- Built the AI-assisted tooling that made non-engineer contribution safe across Claude Code, Cursor, and Pi: coding agents, reusable skills, IDE rules, and contribution kits — including Cursor onboarding and design-system rules written specifically for designers — that guide any contributor to ship compliant, accessible, on-system components.
- Designed and built Studio, an internal AI design tool: a planner-to-composer pipeline that turns prompts into composed, on-system UI; a real-time multiplayer canvas with live cursors, collaborative editing, and frame controls; a draft-to-design-to-prototype content model; and a typed spec layer that auto-generates CRUD over parameterized SQL. Shipped companion devtools (a live component inspector/editor, “Design Tweaker”) as published packages.
- Led major platform-wide migrations with minimal disruption: a typography/token migration across 315 files, and a rich-text-editor replacement that cut roughly 300 lines and removed a runtime dependency while preserving every call site.
- Built the team’s CI/CD automation on GitHub Actions: a visual-regression-testing pipeline with reusable workflows and per-component baseline scoping, a component-usage scanner with an automated PR-impact bot, merge-readiness and ruleset-gate diagnostics, and Storybook preview deploys that deep-link the exact stories a PR changed — the safety net that let a broader, less-specialized contributor base move fast without breaking production.
- Owned delivery infrastructure end to end: a production build-and-deploy system with 75-second cold deploys and build-time version stamping, feature-flag rollouts, and infrastructure-as-code across GitHub, Cloudflare, and OpenRouter.
- Lead the front-end guild and the design-system review process, mentoring engineers and partnering with design and product on roadmap and contribution standards.
The Washington Post (February 2020 – April 2025)
Staff Software Engineer (April 2024 – April 2025)
